Come and have fun on the canal! In addition to your chosen craft we supply a safety helmet and buoyancy aid as part of the hire.

Payment is by bank transfer in advance. Please notify the centre if you no longer require the hire. there is a 100% cancellation charge if cancelled within 24 hours.
Experience: Hires are suitable for those with no paddling experience for Sit on Top Kayas, Canoes. And Paddleboards. We do not hire the closed cockpit style kayak or sea kayaks unless you have appropriate experience and assessed by one of our coaches. We do run kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding courses and lessons for complete beginners.
Group bookings during high season and mid-week hires may be asked to book and pay in advance.

Paddlesport Equipment: Each craft and its equipment will be cleaned at the end of each rental.
Safety Safety Safety : For the safety of other centre users and our staff, please do not attend the Centre if you have Covid 19 or have any of the symptoms (persistent new cough, high temperature, loss or change of smell and/or taste)..
WHAT TO EXPECT
Arrive at our centre in Seabrook, Hythe where one of our friendly team will help you choose the right paddle craft. We issue you with a paddle, helmet and buoyancy aid and give you a safety briefing. The section of canal close to the centre is an ideal spot to while away an hour or so on the water. If you are looking for a challenge, canoes can be paddled as far as the West Hythe Dam, although it will take an experienced paddler a good 5 hours there and back. If you are part of a group and would like to start further up the canal we can provide a quote for transporting the canoes, staff availability permitting. All rentals finish at the centre.
WHAT EXPERIENCE DO I NEED?
Canoeing on the Royal Military Canal is suitable for all levels of ability, most of our customers have either never canoed before or have tried it just a few times, and of course, you can return to build up confidence and ability and take on longer sections. If you’re wanting some coaching prior to hiring, you can arrange a private lesson.

WHERE CAN I PADDLE?
All bookings for the hire of canoes, kayaks and Stand Up Paddleboards (‘a hire’) are taken at the centre, subject to availability. They are for use on the Royal Military Canal between Seapoint Canoe Centre and the Hythe West Dam.
WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE FOR HIRES?
Minimum age: 16 (all under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult).
WHAT DEPOSIT IS REQUIRED?
Security deposit required for each rental.
I / MY CLUB WOULD LIKE TO LAUNCH FROM YOUR PONTOON, IS THIS POSISBLE?
Yes, when the centre is open for usual hires and sessions there’s a launch fee of £5 per paddler. If the hire team need to make a special trip to open the centre there is a minimum fee of £40 for up to 8 paddlers, £5 for each additional paddler. All paid at the centre, by card or cash. Please contact the Hire Team to check the date they can open the centre for you. Each paddler is required to complete a form at the centre which grants them the licence required to paddle on the canal. There is a pay&display car park next to the centre.
