Introduction to the Sea
2 hours sessions, 6 sessions available on 5/5, 26/5, 9/6, 30/6, 7/7 and 14/7, each covering different aspects of sea kayaking. The 6 sessions will be dynamic in nature but will cover all the essential strokes and rescue techniques and each session will have an element of theory discussion.
The aim of this session is to prepare paddlers so that you can be ready and capable to attend and enjoy the sea on a kayak.
Minimum age restriction : 14+ years
INTRODUCTION TO THE SEA
Aim...to develop your skills and ability to apply appropriate decision making for an enjoyable and safe paddling on the sea.
5 MAY SESSION 1 Basics of paddling and steering ....effective, forward, backward, sideways and sideways on the move, stopping, turning, correction, edging, support, skegs
26 MAY SESSION 2 Rescues at Sea, including peer and self rescues
9 JUNE SESSION 3 Introduction to the waves and handling a kayak
30 JUNE SESSION 4 Incident Management
THEORY: online Teams call - Date TBC
7 & 14 JULY SESSION 5&6 Review and consolidate learning
Please arrive at Seapoint Canoe Centre 15 minutes ahead of the session.
The trips are strictly for those aged 14 and over who have achieved equivalent of Discover/Start Award paddling expertise.
This trip is NOT for beginners.
All paddlers must wear wetsuits or similar wet / cold weather gear.
