A 2-day course for those paddlers who have their Discover Award (on SUP) and want to improve their SUP Skills. This course is for paddlers who can predominantly paddle standing up with the ability to perform C & J strokes.
Cost £90 per person for this 2-day course, 4 hour session per day. Maximum 7 paddlers for the course.
Requirements: Minimum age : 18 years old. The course requires 3 participants in order to go ahead.
Clothing - would advise wetsuit, but if weather is warm you can wear shorts and t-shirt, old trainers or swim shoes - Seapoint provides cagoules, buoyancy aids and SUP's. Bring your own wetsuit.
Please note that because of the nature of the sport expect to get wet! Very wet!

The sessions will take place on The Royal Military Canal located between Hythe and Seabrook, and Hythe Beach if sea conditions permit
Arrive 15 minutes before the session starts to get kitted out (we provide all the equipment) and then we’ll try to get out on the water as close to the start time as we can. Those with their own SUPs are encouraged to use their own during the course. Bring your own wetsuit, this is not provided.

Coach ratio will be 1 : 8 maximum, 8 paddlers per session
Bring a change of clothes - prepare to get wet!
Changing rooms are open, bring a large beach towel or poncho to change

DAY ONE : 9am-1pm
Location - Canal
Revision of standing paddling positions and a dynamic posture
Dynamic forward paddle strokes
Standing cross deck strokes; power & draws
Combining strokes
Outside pivot turn/sweep
Practical Rescues of self & others including an unconscious paddler (wet session)
Support strokes & braces
Step back turns; regular & goofy (undoubtedly a wet session)
DAY TWO: 9am - 1pm
Location: Hythe Beach Sea
Introduction to the Sea environment
Launching and recovery off & to the beach
Revisit Trim of board for load & wind
Effects of; Swell, Tides, Wind, Weather
Dealing with swell and waves
Practical application of SUP skills on the sea
Planning and equipment for short sea journey
Helpful planning websites
NB - Due to weather and sea conditions the programme for each day must remain flexible enough to swap completely or be partly located on the sea and canal each day as conditions allow.
